Print shop / Help & preparation
FDM printing FAQ.
Practical answers to help you prepare your file, choose a starting point, and request a useful quote.
Files & preparation
What is FDM printing?
Fused deposition modeling (FDM) builds a part by depositing
melted plastic filament in successive layers. It is the printing
process we offer.
What should I send for a quote?
Email your STL, 3MF, OBJ, or STEP file, the number of parts,
dimensions and units, preferred material and color, and your
target date. Include how the part will be used and any
dimensions that must fit another component. STEP files may need
preparation before printing.
Do I need a 3D model?
We primarily print from supplied 3D files. If your file is not
ready, contact us to discuss what preparation is needed before
requesting a print. Standalone CAD design and 3D scanning are
not current services.
Materials & print results
What if I am not sure which material to choose?
Describe the part’s purpose, loads, operating temperature, and
indoor or outdoor exposure. We can discuss material options and
confirm availability before quoting.
Will my print have visible layers?
FDM prints have layer lines. Orientation, supports, and geometry
also affect surface appearance and fit. Tell us which surfaces
and dimensions matter before we quote.
How large can my part be?
We use several FDM printers, including 350 mm and 400 mm class
machines. Usable space depends on part orientation and supports.
Send your model and units so we can confirm whether it fits or
needs to be split.
Can you print multiple colors?
A multi-material system is available on the Bambu Lab X1C. Tell
us the colors and how they appear in your model so we can
confirm feasibility, availability, and pricing.
Quotes & orders
How much will my print cost?
Pricing depends on material, part size, print time, quantity,
and preparation or finishing work. Send your file and
requirements for a project-specific quote.
How long will it take, and can I collect locally?
Timing depends on the model, quantity, material availability,
and the print queue. We confirm an estimated schedule with your
quote. Local pickup in Buffalo and shipping are available;
arrange the details before production.
What payment methods are available?
Contact us to arrange payment for your quoted order. Production
begins after the project details and payment are confirmed.
What if there is a problem with my print?
Inspect your parts on receipt. If a print does not meet the
agreed requirements, contact us with photos and a description.
See our
quality and defects terms
for reporting guidance and remedies. A request to report visible
issues within seven days does not remove other rights provided
by law.
Services & project information
Do you offer CNC machining?
CNC machining is planned for the future. It is not currently
available to order. Our current service is FDM 3D printing.
Can I share a confidential design?
Discuss confidentiality requirements before emailing sensitive
files. If you need a non-disclosure agreement, send it for
review before sharing your design.
Can I request finishing work?
Describe the finish you need with your print request.
Availability, scope, and any additional cost must be agreed in
the quote.
